Mobbin' In My Car
A Play by Juan M.

Performance: May 18, 2001
Thornton High School, Daly City

Time: Middle of the afternoon
Place: On the Marin Headlands, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, below. It’s very windy, people’s hats are flying away.
Characters: Chevelle, the youngest of four brothers - semi-restored, midnight blue. Camero, the next oldest - fully restored, black drop-top
At Rise: Camero waits for Chevelle here for a prearranged meeting.

Camero:

[aside] I see Chevelle coming up to the parking lot for our meeting.

Chevelle:
Wassup Dawg? What you been up to?

Camero:
Nuttin’ juss chillin’ – and you?

Chevelle:

Same, juss chillin’. So yeah, Camero, you remember why we meeting today, right?

Camero:

Nah. Remind me again, ok?

Chevelle:

Are you a fool? I’m leaving to New York today. ...duh!!!

Camero:

Well, I don’t want you to go. I don’t want to be alone. Who will I race? You are my best buddy, as well. What do you think about that?

Chevelle:

Why are you trying to stop me from going? Always thinking about yourself, like usual. What about what I want? Huh?

Camero:

Shut up! That ain't true!

Chevelle:

Well, don’t try talking me out of this. My mind has been made up for a while. That’s why this meeting was made.

Camero:

Well, if I can’t talk you out of this, then take this! I gonna flatten two of your tires!
[Camero slashes two of Chevelle’s tires]

Chevelle:

[Yells in anger] What the heck are you doing, you imbecile?!?

Camero:

You said I couldn't talk you out of it, so I put it in my own hands.

Chevelle:

[enraged] There you go thinking about yourself, like usual. That pisses me off! Now I can’t go to New York and leave this city to visit our brother and see the rest of the United States.

Camero:

[aside] Deep down inside, Camero feels bad for what he just did. But the words won’t come out. Because now he wants to give Chevelle his spare tire. He now realizes that he was being selfish all along.
[to Chevelle] Ch-ch-chevelle – my bad for what I did.

Chevelle:

[shocked] Wait! What did you say?

Camero:

You heard me. Don’t make me repeat myself. Well, here, I’ll help by giving you one tire.
[Camero hands Chevelle the tire]
The other tire I’ll take out and put it on for you.
[Camero takes out tire from Chevelle and puts them on.]

Chevelle:

Well what has overcome you? This isn't like you! You feeling okay?

Camero:

Yeah, I am. I just realized my selfishness. So you can go now if you want.

Chevelle:

Well, I was thinking if you wanted to come with me.

Camero:

Well, I don’t know... Let me think for a bit.... ... Okay.

Chevelle:

Alright!

Camero:

[sarcastically] Well.... I dunno..... Yeah, I’ll go with you.

[Both drive off on their journey.]

  The End.
