Serendipity:
Good morning.
Faith:
I
don't know what's so good about this morning. |
Serendipity:
Someone's
in a grumpy mood.
Faith:
Just because
I'm not all holly jolly like you doesn't mean I'm grumpy.
Serendipity:
Well, call
it what you want, but you're snappy. What's the matter
with you anyway?
(Faith stands up and gets in Serendipity's face.)
Faith:
My family's
gone, that's what's wrong, and it's your fault.
Serendipity:
Why would
you say something like that? Why would I take away the
only thing I have? Get outta my face!
(Faith backs up a little)
Faith:
Well, if
it wasn't for you, my family would be here. You ran
them off with your spoiled deeds. They were tired of
dealing with you. As a matter of fact, if my family's
not back by dinner, I'm leaving.

Scene
2: Faith walks out on stage and starts talking.
Faith:
I used to
always tell my mother I want to be a dog! She always
asked why? I told because before my father died my mom
and I were the only guinea pigs In South Africa. So
we're basically extinct animals. But dogs is a continuing
family. When dogs have puppies they have them by the
pound. In big groups so there's always family left behind
when one dies.
(Faith
leaves stage. Serendipity enters and then Faith enters.
It's dinner time.)
Well, I
see it's dinner time. I've already eaten. The only reason
I came around is to see if my family was here. But their
not so consider me a vision, because I'm as good as
gone. Nothing you can say can stop me, so don't try.
I'm going to find a new life. Bye.

Scene
3: Faith is by herself in the wilderness. Somewhere
in between Cairo and Simbabawe. She's been running all
night, and she's hungry and tired. She's undecided if
she wants to go back to her cousin, Serendipity. Faith
is gasping for air, breathing really heavy. She stops
as the river and drank water. When Faith looked into
the water, she saw her reflection and started thinking
of her mother. She lied down and cried herself to sleep.

Scene
4: Serendipity is running onto stage. She's walking
and talking to the audience. Faith is on the right of
the audience on stage.
Serendipity:
Where has
she gone? She couldn't possibly be that far. She's not
that hard to spot. She's the only guinea pig in South
Africa. I really wish our family would come back, because
this is a lot of pain I can't handle.
(She walks toward the river and spots Faith. Her
attention is towards Faith)
I think I spotted her. She's by the river. Is she sleepy
or is there something wrong with her? Oh God, I hope
there's nothing wrong with her.
(She wakes her.)
I thought you were in pain or in danger but I see that
you are just tired.
Faith:
Serendipity,
I've been thinking. I want to apologize for accusing
you of something you didn't have control over. I'm having
a really hard time realizing that my family's not coming
back. I want to go home now. I'm glad you came after
me.
Serendipity:
I'm glad
that you faced reality. I know that it's not easy with
us knowing that our parents are gone. But with each
other we can make it. When you left, I thought you were
going to do something really crazy. So I had to come
after you. When I found you laying there, I thought
something dangerous happened to you, and I got really
scared. Then I realized you were sleeping so you must
be tired. I think we should go to sleep and go home
in the morning. Let's never have this argument again.
I love you.
(Pause)
Good night.
(Serendipity lays down)
Faith:
I love you
too. Good night.
(She lays down and they go to sleep)

The
End. |
