(He puts it in da envelope and mails it out. Leo is walkin’ to da museum with one arm carrying his painting. Yalyah walks to the museum. Leo drops one of his portraits. Yalyah helps him pick it up. Leo looks at her.)

(Looks at his art work)
This is nice art work.
Leo: You really think so?
Yalyah: Yeah! I love it.
Leo: Well I’m going to the museum to see if they would put up my art work
Yalyah: Oh that’s great! I’m coming here to see if I could help out.
Leo: Why would people like you wanna work here?
Yalyah: Excuse me!
Leo: People like you don’t care about art.
Yalyah: What is up your…
Leo: People like you don’t give a damn ‘bout art, Ya just like to criticize on people who are thugged out and got talent.
Yalyah:

You know I got 8 older bothers and a majority of ‘em is a thug and they got talent so don’t sit up here tellin’ me I’m a criticizer cause I…

Leo:

(cuts her off)
You don’t know.

Yalyah:

And you wonder why people like you get rejected! It’s artists like you with a nasty attitude who don’t get attention and you wonder why people don’t like your art work.

Leo: ( Shocked)
You’re a cruel person. Why would you say something like dat?
Yalyah: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to but you left me with no other option and I’m not going to let you sit up here and continue criticizing me so why would you think people like me would criticize your art work?
Leo: Because all my life I’ve been rejected and I come out here trying to to find attention through my art and you just look like one of those people from my past that criticize people.
Yalyah: I’m not a criticizer. And if you don’t mind me askin’ what happen in your past that makes you think I’m a criticizer and I reject people?
Leo: Well because you just criticized me and I had a flash back to my past.
Yalyah: You must have had a bad child hood’. What happen?
Leo: You really wanna know?
Yalyah: Yes of course, why not!
Leo: You won’t reject me or be cruel?
Yalyah: No! I won’t.
Leo: Well I lived in SF with my dad and he was on drugz and he never pays attention to me so I’ve started taggin’ on walls and people would always just ignore me like I wasn’t around and I would never sleep. So I came out here to Paris to see if I could get love and attention through my art work. So I guess I was afraid of getting rejected and not getting attention so I just happen to go off on you.
Yalyah:: It’s okay. I could understand. It’s frustrating at times.
Leo: So where are you from?
Yalyah: East Menlo Park in Cali.
Leo: Why are you here?
Yalyah: Because I was really bored with my life. Every day I did the same o thing. I got tired of it. Alwayz wakin’ up in the mornin’ going to school. After school chillin’ with my man and folks doin’ the same thang got old. I had grew up with a lovin’ family and we were all supportive of each other but I just came out here to start fresh.
Leo: So you’re looking for excitement?
Yalyah: Yeah.
Leo: Where do you think you’ll find excitement?
Yalyah: In art. That why I wanna help out here.
Leo: So would you like to see my artwork?
Yalyah: Yeah! This is a nice one! I love this one!...Oh my gosh
(falls on her knees and cries)
Leo: What’s wrong? (Bends down)
You koo?
Yalyah: Oh no.
Leo: What’s wrong?
Yalyah: This art it, it reminds me of something bad that happen in my past.
Leo: What happen?
Yalyah: Well when I was thirteen years old I got molested by a close friend to the family member and every time I think about it I just I just…
Leo: You what? It’s okay. You could talk to me.
Yalyah: I just get really depressed at times . I can’t function right at times. I thought it was over but it still bothers me at times. Sometimes I wonder why did he do that but I guess I will never know.
Leo: I’m sorry. I don’t know…
Yalyah: It’s okay.
Leo: Does your family know?
Yalyah: Yeah they know.
Leo: How did you tell ‘em? How long did it take for you to tell ‘em what your parents think?
Yalyah: I didn’t tell my parents.
Leo: Why not?
Yalyah: After I got molested the man and his wife came to the house and told my parents. My mom and dad was very disappointed. They started crying. Then the dude offered to our family their vehicle and I said “Hell nah. How da …you gonna try to offer us something? You molested me…” In so he bounce . My brothers found out. They was gonna go after him but he bounce to I don’t know where before my brothers and them got to him.
Leo: What a bastard! So how does your family feel?
Yalyah: I never really talked about it wit them. I don’t , I don’t know. I can’t show ‘em that this makes me weak.
Leo: What you mean it makes you weak! I know what happened to you makes you sad. You’re hurt by what happened to you. You’re a strong person. You’re one of the strongest people I have ever met.
Yalyah: You don’t really know me. You just met me.
Leo: I know I just met you but we’ve shared a lot for the past 10-20 minutes and I feel like I’ve known you all my life.
Yalyah: Yeah dat’s true cause I feel like I grew up with you! I’m sorry I told you my life’s story.
Leo: No. I’m sorry I told you mine.
Yalyah: No! I’m glad you shared yours with me ‘cause I’ve learned something new. You’ve helped me look at my situation differently. I can’t let this make me weak. I am a strong person.
Leo: Your life story had taught me how to stay strong and how to be more open minded. You make me want to explore the world more and not to be afraid of getting rejected.
Yalyah: If you had one wish what would it be?
Leo: I wish to have my own art exhibit and someday to have a family of my own so I could teach them and give them what I never had. I don’t want my children to ever fear anything.
Yalyah: Wow, that’s great!
Leo: What your wish?
Yalyah: My wish is that I run my own business someday and that I go to college and get a degree. I wish that one day I’ll find a job and support my family. I just wish that my family forgives me for what I’ve done in the past cause I know I’ve burned ‘em out.
Leo: I wish you the best in life!
Yalyah:

I wish you the best too. Good luck. Get some sleep while you’re at it.

Leo and Yalyah walk into the museum and go their separate ways. They look at each other once again at the end.

  The End.
