ADAPT program serves incarcerated
youth residing at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall. It is a partnership between Each
One Reach One Organization (EORO), Hillcrest (HJH), and Notre Dame de Namur
University (NDNU).
Mentors from NDNU and the community devote one evening a week helping a select
group of young people dream a better future and develop a detailed plan for
achieving these goals. The mentors support the dream by introducing the young
people to training and job opportunities, scholarships, and a variety of community
resources. Because many of these young people lack credentials, the mentors
tutor them to pass the GED (General Education Diploma) or CHSEE (California
High School Exit) exam, depending on their current status in school.
The mentor acts as a conduit between the incarcerated young person and the real
world, procuring whatever information and resources he might need to fully develop
their plan towards accomplishing his dreams.
This is the first after-school program of its kind ever to be developed in the
Bay Area.
